CPSC notice of proposed rulemaking regarding Safety Standard for Lithium-Ion Batteries [comments due Aug 2026] CPSC Docket No. CPSC–2025–0012
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has restarted its rule making on Lithium Ion batteries under 16 CFR Parts 1112 and 1265. This was originally announced in 2025 but then later pulled for review by the Trump administration. That story is linked here. The review packet is now back up (located here on our server so it cant "disappear" again). This is 159 pages long and we have not had a chance to examine and compare this proposed rule making with the prior proposal. All written comments on this proposed rule will need to be received by the CPSC no later than August 23, 2026 following the directions in the proposed rule. Please stay tuned to this page for more analysis.
